Man injured after accidental shooting in Grosse Tete area

Authorities said a member of a group of hunters was accidently shot around noon the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Senior Trooper Bryan Lee, public information officer for Louisiana State Police’s Troop A, said the unidentified man was working at a hunting camp in the Bayou Blue Road area with three friends when the incident occurred.
“At some point during the morning, the four men split up into pairs and separated,” Lee said. “During the time they believed they were in different areas, one man began practicing target shooting.”
Lee said the man practicing shooting, who was also not identified, did not see his friend reenter the area where he was shooting, fired a single shot that passed through the target and hit the other man in the chest as he passed on an ATV with another man.
“He was airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital,” the public information officer said, where it was determined one of his lungs was bruised by the shot.
Lee said the investigation revealed the shot came from a 7 mm weapon.
He said State Police were called in to investigate the incident because it was not a hunting accident, which would have been assigned to the state’s Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
