Sheriff’s Office recovers stolen ATVs, arrests four suspects

According to Sheriff Brett Stassi detectives received a report of a stolen ATV from Aidan Road in Plaquemine.  While investigating that incident additional complaints of stolen ATVs were reported from Blakney Drive and Talbot Drive.

Detectives spotted an ATV driving on the highway and the driver of the ATV fled when he was approached by the detective.  Following a brief pursuit on foot, detectives arrested Camron Hammond for driving a prohibited vehicle (ATV) on the highway.

Further investigation into this matter led to additional charges being filed against Hammond and additional arrests.

Camron Hammond, 18, of59215 WW Harleaux St., Plaquemine, was arrested for driving a prohibited vehicle (ATV) on the highway, resisting an officer, and illegal possession of stolen things.

Ja’Karl Thompson, 19, of 23966 Harmison St., Plaquemine, was arrested for three counts of felony theft and criminal damage to property.

Barry Wiliams, 17, of 22960 Blakney Ln., Plaquemine, was arrested for one count of felony theft.

Jamal James, 18, of27790 Hwy 405, Plaquemine, was arrested for illegal possession of stolen things, resisting an officer, and unauthorized entry into a inhabited dwelling.

The charge of unauthorized entry is a result of James entering a home and hiding in a closet as he attempted to flee from detectives.

The ATVs were recovered and returned to their owners.
