Correctional Center officer booked with sexual battery and other crimes

Department of Public Safety and Corrections investigators immediately acted last Frriday when they received a tip that a corrections officers was allegedly having sex with an offender.

St. Gabriel Police detectives booked a former Elayn Hunt Correctional Center correctional officer with sexual battery, Louisiana RS: 14:43.1, malfeasance in office, RS: 14:134, and introduction of Contraband Into a Penal Institution, RS: 14:402. 

The former sergeant, Sirrena Martin, 28, of Baton Rouge, allegedly had sex with an offender on multiple occasions, and brought a cellphone to him. The Department will turn this over to the district attorney for prosecution.

A fellow officer reported the incident today to administration, and the Department immediately began an investigation. 

Martin admitted to the crimes, and the Department separated her from employment following her arrest. She was a probational employee.

Martin began her short career as a correctional officer on July 31,2017.

Martin met or exceeded all Department requirements to be hired as a corrections officer, including a criminal background check.
