Friday, August 31: Public and private schools in Iberville Parish will not to resume until Tuesday, Sept. 4, or the day after Labor Day.

Water and ice are now being distributed at North Iberville School until it runs out.

Much of north Iberville is still without power, as are areas in south Iberville. The parish has requested Points of

Distribution (PODs) from the state to provide water, ice and "MREs" for those who are without power, and hopes to have an update on that soon.

Parish and City of Plaquemine offices are open today.

Plaquemine restored 99 percent of its power to residents and businesses, the only community in the region to be able to do so as such an early date.

City officials credited improvements in the electrical system, upgrading of power lines, quick cutting of downed trees, and a lot of pre-planning brought on by the struggles during Hurricane Gustav.

Garbage pickup for normal Wednesdays-Thursdays were moved to today and tomorrow (August 31 and Sept. 1)

Red Cross shelters were set to close in the evening today (August 31).

The parish suffered no road closures or significant flooding.
