The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana's Children awarded two interactive whiteboard systems to St. John School on Wednesday.

Jindal, wife of Governor Bobby Jindal, personally made the presentation to an elementary school class and teachers midday.

"We are trilled to bring this technology throughout Louisiana," Jindal said. "We have delivered whiteboards to every parish in our state and are targeting kindergarten through second grade because we truly want our children to build a solid foundation."

The award package includes a laptop, a Promethean interactive whiteboard with speaker system, an interactive response system that will allow students to actively participate in a lesson, all installation and instructor training for all teachers.

The foundation has awarded systems to over 320 classrooms across the state.

"This is something that we are beginning to see transform education across the country," Jindal said. "A study shows a 17-29 percent gain in academic achievement in classrooms with systems versus those without."

The awarding to St. John School was made possible through a partnership with the Union Pacific Foundation.

"With hard work, we have the opportunity to make a lasting and positive difference in education," Jindal said.

The later foundation is the philanthropic arm of Union Pacific Corporation and Union Pacific Railroad.

"Union Pacific believes that the quality of life in the communities in which its employees live and work is an integral part of its own success," director of public affairs Drew Tessier said. "To bring technology into the classroom at St. John School, where so many of our past and present employee's children and grandchildren have attended makes it a perfect fit."

Interactive whiteboards are tools teachers can use in the classroom. The educator can write on them, watch videos, support complex presentations or download presentations from teachers in any state to help illustrate a lesson.

The Supriya Jindal Foundation is a non-profit organization that seeks to aid Louisiana's children in all aspects of education with a special emphasis on mathematics and sciences, while also giving teachers new tools that will foster an innovative and enriching learning envirorment.

Union Pacific Corporation owns one of America's leading transportation companies linking 23 states in the western two-thirds of the country. The Railroad serves many of the fastest-growing U.S. population centers and provides Americans with a fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly and safe mode of freight transportation.
