Brunswick, Rev. Herbert J., Sr.

Reverend Hebert J. Brunswick, Sr. a very peaceful and humble servant of God was called to enter into eternal rest on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. He was 94 years old. Reverend Brunswick was a native and resident of Modeste and was a retired director of Westside Vocational School; he served his country as Sergeant in the U. S. Army during WWII. Reverend Brunswick served as Assistant Minister at Macedonia Baptist Church, Plaquemine and later joined St. Philip Baptist Church, Modeste, where he served as Associate Minister under the leadership of Reverend Victor Pedescleaux. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Demby & Son Funeral Home, 900 Magnolia St., Donaldsonville, from 4 to 6 p.m.. and Masonic Rites will also be given on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at St. Philip Baptist Church, 7471 Highway 405, Modeste. On Saturday, August 24, 2013, visiting will continue from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11:00 A.M. at Shekinah Glory Fellowship Church, 10164 N Line St., St. James. Eulogy by Reverend George Carter. Burial will be held in St. Philip Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Herbert J. Brunswick, Sr. leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving and devoted wife, Mildred Haymond Brunswick; two children and their spouses, Herbert, Jr. and Phyllis Brunswick of Duluth, Ga. and Samantha and Nathan Andrus of Marrero; one daughter-in-law, Rose Brunswick of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Hubbard of New Orleans and Velma Haymond of Donaldsonville; one brother-in-law, Floyd Haymond and his wife Christina of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren, Joseph, Jr., Adrian, Jermaine, Charlena, Nicole and Nathan Brunswick and Blair and Justin Andrus; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Godchildren, Ester Williams, Benesia Adams, Virginia Patterson, Ravia Reed, Arthur Haymond and Lauthaught Delaney, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabra Daggs Brunswick and James Brunswick, Jr.; wife, Susan Randolph Brunswick; son, Joseph Brunswick, Sr.; brother, Augustus Brunswick; sister, Edmonia Brunswick Crawford; grandchild, Rosalind McDuffie; aunts, Adline Petty and Stella Whitmore; uncle, Hosea Daggs; sisters-in-law, Earnestine Brunswick, Wilma Haymond and Ophelia Haymond; and brothers-in-law, Leo Haymond, Sanders Crawford and Arthur Haymond.
