Clarence John Butler Sr.

Clarence John Butler Sr., 87, of Plaquemine passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Baton Rouge General Hospital on Bluebonnet. He was born on Sept. 11, 1926 in Plaquemine to the late Henry Butler Sr. and Evelyn Taylor Butler, one of eight children. He married Ethel James on Sept. 18, 1954 and they were blessed with six children. Butler proudly served his country in the U.S. Army’s Company A 143rd Chemical Mortar Battalion during World War II and was a dedicated employee for Autocrat/Iberville Wholesale for over 40 years. He was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he proudly served on the Deacon and Trustee Board and served as the Financial Secretary for many years. He is survived by his wife, Ethel James Butler; daughters, Dana Coachman, Debbie Tillman (Leonard), Shelly Grimes (Kelvin), Lois Martins (Alfred) and Yolanda Laws (Ernest); son, Clarence Butler Jr. (Sharon); sister, Gloria Washington; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Evelyn Butler; brothers Isaac Butler, Henry Butler, Charles Butler, Lawrence Butler and Percy Butler; sister Ida Butler Demby and granddaughter Jada Nicole Butler. Visitation will be at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Seymourville on Sunday, April 6 from 3-5 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Dismissal at Ebenezer on Monday, April 7 at 10 a.m. Interment at Grace Memorial Park.
