PHS boys take runner-up honors in 8-3A track
Plaquemine High’s boys tallied 118 points and won eight event championship to take runner-up honors in the District 8-3A track meet held last week in Port Allen.
The hosting PAHS Pelicans won the meet with 138 points, followed by PHS, St. James 55, Brusly 50.5, and Livonia 13.
Plaquemine blew away PAHS in the relay events, winning the 4 X 200 in 1:31, the 4X 100 in 44.17, and the 4 X 400 in 3:33.15. Hakeem Deggs, Deondre Philson, Torray Collins, and Alvin Grant made up the two sprint relay units, while Grant, Collins, Chaz Major, and Decorey Brown made up the longer baton relay.
Deggs won the 100-meter dash with a clocking of 11.12, while Myron Jack gave PHS a one-two punch as he was second with a 11.35).
Philson captured the 200 dash with a time of 22.46.
Major was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00, while Shaun Edwards was second in the 3200 meters with a 13:11 and third in the 1600 meters with a 5:30. Troyvionce Jones was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.5
A trio of Green Devils claimed field event titles. Cody Nugent won the 8-3A discus with a throw of 123 feet, while Treveon Hawkins won the javelin with a toss of 152-8. Nick Brown captured the high jump with a leap of 6-4.
Philson was third in the long jump with a 19-3, while Caleb Jefferson was third in the shot put with a heave of 42-11.
