PHS La. Hoops team closes out summer practice league
Plaquemine High-based La. Hoops teams closed out their summer practice league basketball league competition last week.
The White and Black (varsity and JV) teams finished with a combined 12-13 overall record and a 6-10 mark in league play for fourth place. They were 3-1 in the Redemptorist league.
The varsity white team beat Central Private at Redemptorist High by a 54-30 score to end their summer league workouts.
Future senior Jessie Ward led the way with 21 points, while Davon Godchaux tallied 12.
The freshman blue team closed out Redemptorist league play with a 45-19 victory over the hosting RHS JVs. Charleston Spears led the offense with 12 points, while Sandy Bosley and Chris Green turned in some solid ball-hawking, according to Coach Denny Wright.
The frosh also beat the Ascension CHS varsity by a 49-26 score to give the locals an overall 6-4 summer practice record. All of their games were against JV and varsity teams.
The JV Black La. Hoops team beat Assumption High by a 49-35 score. Demetrius Franklin Jr. tallied 16 points, while Charleston Spears tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds. Louis Conerly added 12 points.
The Varsity White team lost in double overtime by a 46-44 score to Assumption A last-second three-point bucket by AHS sent the game into the OT period. Conerly, Godchaux, and Justin Randall paced the varsity offense with 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.
The Plaquemine High basketball players practiced Thursday and took a Fourth of July break. They resumed Tuesday through Thursday agility and Individual skill work after Monday.
