Local prep grid teams spread to three different Friday night jamborees
Local prep football certainly will be under Friday night lights in a couple of weeks, but the foursome of parish teams will be spread out at three difference preseason jamborees.
The only local jamboree this coming season will be Friday, August 26, at Plaquemine High and two parish clubs will collide with the PHS Green Devils hosting defending Class 1-A state champion White Castle High Bulldogs.
The PHS jam will be the first held in over four years as the Green Devils took part in the Ascension Parish Jamboree two years in a row and then, more recently, for two years in the Port Allen High showcase. The jamboree also will mark the first time PHS and WCHS have met on the gridiron after competing at least a decade ago in Plaquemine jamborees.
A PHS-WCHS Junior Varsity time abbreviated contest will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the two varsity teams.
Meanwhile, St. John High of Plaquemine attends the annual All-Catholic Jamboree at Redemptorist High in Baton Rouge Friday, August 26. This will be the third-straight year the 1-A Eagles will play the 4-A St. Michael The Archangel Warriors. Both previous meetings, the two clubs played close outings with SJHS losing the first meeting by a close score, but winning by a narrow count last year.
NOTE: New SJHS fans get to Redemptorist early because parking is fairly limited and the RHS-Catholic BR game the same evening draws an enormous crowd. St. John plays the first time abbreviated contest that Friday.
Rounding out the four parish jamboree games, the East Iberville High Tigers will be heading to New Roads to play hosting False River Academy Friday, August 26. This will be a good match for the Tigers because they played FRA from beginning to end last season in a regular season outing before falling 14-7.
Offensive players to watch:
PHS: All-purpose back Hakeem Deggs.
SJHS: All-purpose back Da’vante Williams.

EIHS: RB Nick Brooks.
Defensive players to watch:
