Rico finds preseason prep expectations on line

St. John Hall of Fame Member and former POST SOUTH sportswriter and City Councilman Mickey “Rico” Rivet stopped by the newspaper recently with a preseason prep poll he found on the Internet.

He wanted to share the information so I could get some early August enthusiasm going and PS SPORTS thanks him for it.

The source he tapped into was Louisiana Sportsline.

Not long after Rivet left the newspaper St. John High head coach Barry “Tut” Musemeche and PS SPORTS spoke. I went over the information Rivet sent and the Eagle mentor noted: “Everyone has an opinion.” I readily agreed and told him I would toss out the speculation to get fans thinking prep football.

First, local Plaquemine High was not ranked in the top ten in their new 4-A classification. However, the interesting point was that their new District 6-4A member, Lutcher High, garnered a number four spot in the state 4-A prediction poll. Edna Karr, Breaux Bridge, and St. Augustine all ranked ahead of the LHS Bulldogs. Top players for Lutcher will be running back Daniel Taylor, defensive safety Kyron Jackson, and wide receiver Dorian Semien. The Bulldogs were 10-2, but were upset in the second round of the playoffs last year.
