Three of four parish prep football clubs notch wins Friday night
Three of the four parish prep football teams garnered victories Friday night, but the one that lost ended up having its undefeated record blemished.
White Castle High visited East Iberville over in St. Gabriel Friday evening and ended the hosting Tigers’ five-game win streak with a District 9-1A opening 44-6 victory. WCHS ended its four-game losing skid, but made the most of the experience gained via a strong and competitive non-district schedule and proved to be the heavyweight football club on the field Friday.
Tyree Bracken ran for 220 yards and a trio of touchdowns to lead the WC Bulldog offense, while the victors’ defense held EIHS to only 113 yards and one touchdown.
In Plaquemine, St. John and Plaquemine High won on successive nights at Green Devil Stadium Thursday and Friday night to boost their district and season marks on the gridiron.
St. John (4-2) claimed a 53-6 victory over Ascension CHS in the two teams’ District 9-1A opener. The Eagles rolled up 417 yards rushing to dominate the contest, scoring 39 points in the first half to take a commanding lead. Christian Primeaux led the SJHS attack with 193 yards rushing and three TDs, while Da’vante Williams chipped in 116 yards and two TDs.
The next evening at PHS, the hosting Green Devils evened up their season mark at 3-3 and moved to a 2-0 start in District 6-4A football with their rout, stomping visiting Broadmoor High 37-0. The PHS defense limited the visitors to only 169 yards offense and no points, while the Green Devil piled up 419 yards, most coming on four TD runs of 45 or more yards. Julius Maracalin rushed for 205 yards and a pair of 60-yard touchdown runs, while Hakeem Deggs had 66-yard TD run and a trio of two-point conversions. Myron Jack added a 45-yard TD jaunt.
