THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL RECAP: Plaquemine blanks Belaire; St. John falls to West St. John

Plaquemine rallied to its fifth consecutive victory, while St. John came out on the short end of a showdown for the District 9-1A championship in Thursday night action.
PLAQUEMINE
PHS routed Belaire 30-0 in action at Baton Rouge’s Olympia Stadium. The win kept the Green Devils (6-3, 5-0) undefeated after five District 7-4A outings, and set the stage for a Week 10 showdown against the No.5-ranked Lutcher Bulldogs, also unbeaten in district fare.
Ricky Aro scored twice on 1-yard runs, while Julius Marcalin reached the end zone on a 48-yard scamper. The Green Devils mounted a 22-0 halftime lead.
Hakeem Deggs closed scoring with an 81-yard run in the third quarter. Deggs led the Green Devil rushing attack with 168 yards.
Belaire (1-8) closes its season Nov. 4 against Tara.
ST. JOHN
St. John amassed 345 yards total offense, but it wasn’t enough to stop West St. John in a battle Thursday night for the District 9-1A championship.
Jared Moll threw for three touchdowns and added one more off a punt return to lead the Rams (7-2, 4-0) to a 36-20 win over the Eagles.
Kynum Favorite scored twice for the Rams.
Christian Primeaux scored the first SJHS touchdown off a 17-yard run in the first. DEvante Williams had runs of 28 and 5 yards for the Eagles (6-3, 3-1).
The first Williams TD trimmed the Eagle deficit to 14-12 by halftime.
St. John hosts Ascension Christian in the regular season finale Thursday, Nov. 3 at Plaquemine High’s Andrew Canova Stadium. The Rams entertain East Iberville.
