ROAD TO THE SUPERDOME: St. John rival heads to state title game

wo teams that battled local and area schools this season will head to state championship games next weekend.

West St. John, which won the District 7-1A championship in a win over St. John (and defeated the Eagles in the regional round) will face Ouachita Christian in the Class 1A championship game at 1 p.m. Dec. 10 in the LHSAA State Football Championship at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

West St. John defeated Vermillion Cahtholic 54-41 to reach the championship round. Ouchita Christian routed Mangham (which eliminated White Castle in the first round) 54-0.

In Class 3A, St. Charles Catholic, which beat neighboring Brusly and Port Allen en route to the District 7-3A title, won off a field goal with two second remaining in a 24-21 shootout against Parkview Baptist.

The top-seeded Comets will battle Amite, which toppled Marksville 30-6, Saturday, Dec. 10.

Lutcher, who beat Plaquemine for the 6-4A title, came out short in a 20-7 loss to Edna Karr, who will meet top-seeded Neville at the Superdome. Neville beat Breaux Bridge 16-7.

In Class 5A, Carencro will battle West Monroe. Carencro beat C.E. Byrd 34-21, while West Monroe defeated Mandeville 26-14 to advance to the title game.

Class 2A sees perennial frontrunner John Curtis in a showdown with Winnfield. JCHS eliminated Evangel in a 38-6 contest, while Winnfield outlast Calvary Baptist 41-21.
