WCHS girls open basketball slate with loss to 4-A host

LADY BULLDOG…Erica Jones and her White Castle High teammates took part in the annual Rocky Ourso Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament last week.

White Castle High’s Lady Bulldogs lost their season basketball opener early last week to hosting upper classification 4-A Tara High in Baton Rouge by a 56-49 score.

Coach Tammy Pierce’s WC girls were down by only a few points throughout the game as Tara’s Lady Trojans took quarter leads of 14-11, 17-13, and 15-14 into the final period. WCHS shaved a point off the final seven-point Tara win margin in the final stanza.

Junior Erica Jones paced the Lady Bulldog offense in the loss with 16 points, while Kendra Jones added 13. Jakira Robertson meshed in 6 points, while Skylar O’Bear and Delicia Landry had 5 points apiece. Shylar O’Bear finished with 3 points, while Meghan Overstreet tallied a point.

Tyra Dominic led Tara with a game-high 22 points.

Tara also won the JV game, claiming a 36-20 victory.
