PHS, WC girls play late week basketball contests

Plaquemine High and White Castle girl basketball teams played hoop contests late last week. Here are the results of their games:

PHS 41, EAST ASCENSION 32: The Lady Green Devil girls upped their season mark to 6-2 last Thursday with a victory over 5-A visitor East Ascension.

The PHS girls claimed scoring margins of 10-8, 9-6, 9-7, and 13-11 as they slowly built their nine-point victory advantage.

Brianna Arnold paced the PHS attack with 11 points, while Amber Smith meshed in 9 points. Myeshia Bell netted 8, while Kadijah Mims had 5. Three more PHS girls combined for 8 points.

Dara Farlough paced EAHS with a game-high 15 points.

EA won the JV game by a 19-10 score.

BELAIRE 52, WCHS 37: The Lady Bulldogs continued to struggle to find their game in the early season, but the level of competition has been strong for the locals.

WCHS girls took on 4-A Belaire High on the road Friday and suffered a 15-point loss, falling to 2-8 for the season.

The hosting Lady Bengals jumped out to a 23-17 halftime lead and then added to their margin with a 17-8 run in the third period. The Lady Bulldogs never gave up as they cut the BHS lead in the final stanza with a late 15-12 margin.

Skylar O’Bear led the WC club in scoring with 12, while Erica Jones added 9 points. Shylar O’Bear meshed in 6, while Jakira Robertson and Delicia Landry netted 4 apiece.

Belaire moved to 7-5 overall with the victory as Nina Young hit for 14 points to lead the way.
