Senior point guard Kenyetta Jackson put up 58 points in the EIHS win over Ascension Christian last week, a school record.

District play continued for the East Iberville Lady Tigers against Southern Lab and Ascension Christian, where East Iberville’s own Kenyetta Jackson put up 58 points in the 73-41 victory.

Jackson, the 5-foot-3 senior point guard was as shocked as head coach Cormanda Grace last week at her own performance, but she credits her teammates for making it possible.

“I was just playing the game,” Jackson said.  “I saw opportunities to score and I drove to the basket.  My teammates set a lot of screen to get me open.  I couldn’t do it without them.”

According to a report with the Advocate, Jackson’s points came off of 21 two-pointers and just two 3-pointers.

“The person keeping the book told me she (Jackson) had 50 points,” head coach Cormanda Grace said.  “She’s our point guard and scores a lot of points.  But 50 through three quarters?  I was shocked.”

Jackson averages 25 points per game and put up 36 points against Ascension Catholic, 27 against Southern Lab and 31 over St. John.

The 58-point performance is a school record, but more importantly, it helped lead the team to yet another district win.  They are now 13-6 overall and 4-2 in district play.
