Green Devils open district play 4-0
Plaquemine Green Devils won their third and fourth straight district matchups last week with a win over rival Belaire (59-44) and St. Michael (62-44).
The Devils have won their district tilts handily so far this season, each with double-digit victories. They earned their first over Woodlawn B.R. 57-43, then defeated Tara 76-52.
Wayne Toussant and Darius Jackson each co-lead in scoring for PHS at Belaire with 11 points. Trajan Butler and Herb Thomas each followed with 10 and Keandre Randall racked up seven and A.J. Riley with five.
Randall and Thomas each totaled four assists in the win while Toussant and Jackson followed each with three. Jackson lead with nine rebounds, Toussant with seven and Butler and Henry Spriggs with five. The team shot 42 percent overall and just nine percent from beyond the arc.
After earning their third district win, PHS returned home to take on rival St. Michael, and came away with a 62-44 victory.
Randall lead the way for the Devils and nearly broke 40 with a 38-point performance. Darius Jackson followed with seven and Toussant and Riley followed with six. Jackson and Herb Thomas each totaled six rebounds and Butler racked up five. Jackson lead in assists with five.
The team shot 59 percent overall, 61 percent inside the arc and 57 percent beyond the arc.
The Devils sport a 20-6 overall record and are 4-0 in district play before they travel to Livonia and host Woodlawn this week.
Plaquemine Green Devils rank eighth overall in the LHSAA Class 4A power ranking.
