Green Devil district streak continues
The Plaquemine Green Devils tacked on two more notches in their district win column and are now a perfect 6-0 in district play.
PHS opened play last week on the road at Livonia High and came away with a 63-53 victory. It was a neck-and-neck battle through the first three quarters. The game was tied 23-23 at the half and PHS held a narrow one-point 35-34 lead after the third.
The Green Devil offense kicked their game into high gear in the fourth after putting up 28 points in eight minutes of play to Livonia’s 19.
Keandre Randall was scoring leader in the district win with 21 points, followed by A.J.Riley with 15, Herb Thomas with 12 and Henry Spriggs and Trajan Butler each with five.
Thomas lead with six assists and Khris Grace and Randall each racked up three. Riley and Tyrin McCoy shared rebound duties with five apiece.
The Devils shot 53 percent inside the arc.
After the tough road victory, PHS returned home for a rematch against district rival Woodlawn B.R. The last go-round, PHS came away with a 57-43 victory. Last Friday, the Devils dominated the court and defeated their rival 59-29.
Randall lead in scoring again with 20 points, followed by Darius Jackson with 10, Thomas with seven and Riley with five. Randall also lead in assists with four. Jackson was the rebound leader with 10, followed by Thomas with seven and Wayne Toussant with six.
The Devils are 22-6 overall and 6-0 in district play and will look to notch two more wins this week over Tara and Belaire.
Plaquemine’s rank in the LHSAA 4A power rankings improved from eighth to seventh this week.
