Lady Bulldogs' season ends in round two

White Castle Lady Bulldogs ended their regular season with an overall 8-4 record in district play, good enough for third place behind Southern Lab (12-0-1) and Ascension Christian (9-3-1).
Their regular season record earned the Lady Bulldogs the 10th overall seed in the 1A LHSAA playoffs. WCHS opened round one with a home playoff game against 23-seeded South Cameron, and came out on top in a 69-52 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed after the first quarter, 13-15, but stepped on the gas pedal and never looked back in the final three.
WCHS put up 18 points to South Cameron’s 11 before the half to take a 31-26 lead. The Lady Bulldogs dominated their home court in the third with a 21-point performance followed by a 17-point fourth quarter.
WCHS advanced to the second round of the 1A playoffs for the third straight season to take on seventh-seeded Tensas, a team that just came off a blowout win over the other 1A Iberville team East Iberville, 64-21.
Lady Bulldogs hit the road in hopes of advancing to the quarterfinal round, but fell short 40-56.
WCHS took a slight step back from last year’s performance when they reached the quarterfinal round in 2016. Even in a year of rebuilding, the Lady Bulldogs found a way to remain dominant in 1A play which is something to be proud of. Look for this young squad to regroup and remain in the 6-1A championship conversation next year.
WCHS will lose seniors Brooklyn Falcon, Jakayla Washington and Sharon Flowers to graduation, but expect standouts Madison Branch and Shavon Allen to step up in 2017-18.
