For the majority of the young East Iberville Tiger squad, this is their first trip to a postseason.  According to first year head coach Jason Marks, the team has just one senior that has played only two minutes of a playoff game.

After finishing out their regular season at third overall in District 6-1A, the East Iberville Tigers earned the No. 14 overall seed in the 1A bracket and opened play at home against No. 19 seed Delta Charter last week.

The Tigers took a 19-15 lead after the first quarter of play in an attempt to keep DC at bay.  Delta Charter was nipping at the Tiger heels at the half, however, after trailing 24-36 with a chance to close the gap.

Desperate for a playoff victory, the Tigers kicked the second half into full throttle and took at 57-35 lead after the third quarter.  EIHS closed out the game by dropping an 80-point bomb on the visiting team to bring the game to a final 83-52 opening round win.

“This is a big accomplishment for the guys,” coach Marks said.  “A lot of them have never seen the playoffs. We’ve got one senior who has only played two minutes of a playoff game his whole career.

“It was good that this might be our last home game of the year to send them off with a win.”

Standouts Ty Darville, Mandrill Williams and Ricky Morris stood out for coach Marks in the win and they will look to capitalize on their performances in round two when they take on No. 3 seed Delhi.

Until then, Marks and the Tigers will focus on their shooting and working on their defense.

The results of the Tigers’ round two matchup have not been reported by press time.  Be sure to check us out at www.postsouth.com for more.
