Plaquemine Devils dominate early in track and field season

Plaquemine Green Devils are dominating 2017 track and field events.

In recent school history, it has been the Plaquemine Lady Devils that have brought home the gold to Iberville Parish.  This year, the PHS men are tearing up the track.

On March 17, both the Plaquemine men and women took home first in the annual Green Devil Relays.  The boys took first overall with 199 points scored and the Lady Green Devils placed first with 213.

The week before, on March 10, the Plaquemine Green Devils took home first place at the Baton Rouge Magnet Relays with a score of 102, followed by Capitol Senior at 73, Central (BR) at 53, Woodlawn (BR) at 53, Madison Prep at 48, Baton Rouge Magnet at 48, Belaire at 47.5, East Feliciana at 45.5, McKinley at 27, Glen Oaks at 24 and Lee STEM at 6.

The Plaquemine Lady Devils placed sixth overall with a score of 41.  First place went to the host team Baton Rouge Magnet with 188.5.

The lone first place finish for the Lady Devils came from Kenne Washington in the high jump with a height of 5’.  Taejah Watkins placed second overall in the triple jump with a distance of 33’, Breanna Dillon placed second in the javelin throw at 85’11” and Jolin Passantino placed third overall in the discus throw at 109’5”.

There was a string of first place finishes for the Plaquemine Green Devils, however, as speedster Trey Williams placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.06.  Williams also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash at 23.86.

Devil Damico Young placed first overall in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:41.01.  Running mate Austin Martin followed in ninth at 13:59.04.

Standout gridiron defensive back Todd Harris placed first overall in two events: the men’s high jump with a height of 6’2” and the triple jump with a distance of 43’3”.  Andre’ Riley placed third overall in the high jump with a height of 6’ and Dallas Ropati placed fourth in the triple jump at 37’7”.

Trey Trusclair placed first overall in the discus throw with a distance of 124’6”, followed by Abraham Delphin in second with a distance of 101’.

Delphin did earn a first place finish in the javelin throw with a distance thrown of 139’6”.  Brandon Ennis followed in second at 134’11”.

The Plaquemine Green Devils will look to continue their track and field dominance this week when they travel to compete in the annual Ike Reddit Relays at East Iberville High.
