Iberville Parish Council and Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso recently recognized the White Castle Bulldogs for their recent Class 1A Boy’s Basketball Championship.

The team was presented with a resolution of recognition from the Parish Council in last week’s meeting.  The resolution stated the council recognizes the need for recreation and sports as enrichment of character, teamwork and sportsmanship.

The win was White Castle’s first 1A title since 2011 when the school won the gridiron crown.  White Castle earned the crown after a 60-47 victory over No. 6 seeded Tensas in the 1A playoffs.  WCHS earned the No. 4 seed after finishing second overall in District 6-1A.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with three straight home games, against D’Arbonne Woods Charter, No. 13 Grand Lake and No. 12 Haynesville before taking their road trip to the Lake Charles Tournament.

The Bulldogs defeated the top-seeded Sicily Island 58-42 before closing out their season with the 1A title.  The win is the first title the boy’s basketball team has earned under head coach Troy Green’s leadership.

A parade is scheduled to honor the Bulldog team in White Castle on Saturday, April 1.

“The tough schedule paid off and this title means the world,” head coach Troy Green said.
