Baseball ends in Iberville as last remaining team falls in round two
Baseball season officially came to a close for Iberville high teams on Monday when the last remaining squad, East Iberville Tigers, hit the road to take on No. 5 LaSalle in round two of the LHSAA 1A playoffs.
Round two of the 1A playoffs has been the furthest the East Iberville Tigers have reached since 2003. Their last postseason appearance was during the 2005 season. This year, the Tigers won three district games. They haven’t claimed a district win in over 15 years.
The East Iberville Tigers earned the No. 13 seed in the 1A bracket and opened round one play against the No. 20 ranked White Castle Bulldogs.
EIHS had just come off a two game series sweep over the Bulldogs in the regular season, and claimed their third in last week’s first round tilt (9-3).
Their season ended on Monday, however, when EIHS hit the road to take on No. 5 LaSalle and came up short 11-0 after five innings.
Jake Harelson and Izack Bailey split pitching duties. Harelson earned 11 first pitch strikes, Bailey earned six, and each Tiger pitcher earned a pair of strikeouts in the loss.
Though the season ended in a loss, it has been head coach Moe Pointer’s best since he took the position in 2012.
“It’s been an emotional rollercoaster,” Pointer said. “Our seniors went out on top, and we were two games away from the big dance. Not bad.”
The Tigers are currently preparing for next season and will look to earn another playoff berth for the school under the leadership of seniors Blake Barbay and Izack Bailey.
