Former St. John Eagle Payton Passantino dominated the SAA Track and Field Championships for the Millsaps Majors after taking home the javelin title.

Millsaps freshman Payton Passantino of Plaquemine dominated the Southern Athletic Association Track and Field Championships by taking home the javelin title.  She also took home first-team All-SAA honors for her first-place finish.

Passantino earned a pair of 36-meter throws through the first four rounds, but she passed all four competitors with her final throw with a distance of 40 meters (131’3”).  Not only did it win the competition, but it shattered the school record she set earlier in the year by almost eight feet.

She earned 14 individual points and took home sixth in the shot put with a toss of 10.76 meters (35’3.75”).  In discus, she just missed her season-best throw by two inches with her mark of 31.53 meters (103’5”) and finished eighth overall.

Passantino also scored for the Majors on the 4x400-meter run squad.

Payton signed her scholarship in April 2016 at St. John to continue her athletic dominance for Millsaps on the volleyball court and in the field for the Majors.
