Lady Eagles ready to serve it up under Hester

St. John School recently announced another new addition in their summer coach-carousel, this time to the hardcourt.

Caitlin Hester will lead the St. John Lady Eagles volleyball squad this season, and comes with experience.  Prior to accepting the position at St. John, Hester coached at St. Michael the Archangel in Baton Rouge.  Before that, she coached a stint Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport.

“I’m extremely blessed to be the head coach of such a talented group of girls at a great school,” said Hester.  “I am lucky enough to coach a group who has a ton of heart and are ready to play whoever steps onto the court against them.”

Hester was brought on board in late June, and had some time during the summer to work with her 2017 team.  The Lady Eagles participated in a couple of volleyball camps, one being the Baton Rouge High Competition Camp.

“I have a very strong and talented group of seniors who, I believe, will play a huge part in leading our team this season,” said Hester.  “We have some challenging areas in our schedule, but I have full confidence we will be able to come out victorious.”

A few key returning seniors this season were starters on last year’s team and were named to 6-1A All-District.  They are: Grace Robichaux, Robbi Seneca, Carolyne Glaser and Sarah Caballero.

This talented group of experienced players could be just what the Lady Eagles need to make a push for a championship.  Last season, the Lady Eagles earned the No. 7 seed in the Division V postseason bracket.  They earned a first round bye, then swept No. 10 Westminster Christian in round two before falling to eventual champion No. 2 Metairie Park Country Day in the quarterfinals.

“These girls take being a part of this team very seriously, and when they play their game, they’re a dangerous group,” added Hester.  “We have a few big games this season.  Our biggest goal this season is to win a district title and a state championship.  We’ve come close in the past to reaching our goals, but our hopes are to return this year and win it all.”
