Plaquemine High’s Green Devils eye playoffs with momentum after 49-21 win over Lutcher High

The playoff bound Green Devils of Plaquemine High head to a playoff game Friday night, extending their season with a convincing 49-21 victory over Lutcher High’s Bulldogs.

With the win, the Devils improve to season records of 8-2 overall but still in second place behind Parkview Baptist School in 4-A District 6 play. Parkview’s district record is 7-3 overall and 5-1 in district.

With three touchdowns spread out over the first quarter, the Green Devils jumped out to a 21-0 lead in a scoreless period for the Bulldogs.

Plaquemine High standout Wayne Toussant dashed 81 yards for the Devils’ first touchdown and with Brayden David’s point after lit up the scoreboard with about 6:29 left in the first.

The Green Devils’ defense put the next TD in lights when Bryant Jones gathered in a fumble to score. Again, David tacked on the PAT.

Near the end of the first quarter, Plaquemine High stretched its lead to three touchdowns when Herman Christophe punched into the end zone for six points with less than two minutes left in the period. David’s point after attempt was good and the score moved to 21-0.

With a mere 22 seconds left in the first half, the Green Devils stretched their lead to 28 with a 5-yard Dontayvion Wicks pass to Percy Butler for a touchdown, topped off with another David PAT.

Lutcher’s Bulldogs finally put points up with two touchdown passes from Kolby Bourgeois to Gregory Clayton to put points on the visitors’ side of the scoreboard. Alec Bland added the points after scores.

In the second half, the Green Devils were again the first ones to score, this time with a Christophe 6-yard rushing touchdown and David added the PAT.

A 5-yard TD pass from Wicks to Codi Willis added another six points about halfway through the fourth quarter and about two minutes later, Christophe ran another touchdown from three yards out. David was good on the point after attempt.

With the game decided, Plaquemine with 42 points to Lutcher’s 14 and about 2:30 left on the clock, the Bulldogs added six points on a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Daevon Adams and Bland kicked the PAT.
