Gus Malzahn should be a happy man after Owen Pappoe likely signs and comes to Auburn's campus all by the middle of January.

Pappoe is one of the best linebackers in the county who could potentially see playing time as a freshman. He is rated as a 5-star prospect and ranked as the No. 15 overall prospect in the 2019 class, according to 247Sports.

Pappoe possesses the skill-set to become a great SEC linebacker on the Plains. Here are a few facts about the standout.

Possibly still considering Tennessee

Pappoe committed to Auburn on May 1 and has remained pretty solid in that pledge. However, that hasn't kept the Tennessee coaching staff from continuing their pursuit.

The rumors for a Tennessee flip started to get pretty loud two weeks out from the early Signing period beginning on Dec. 19.

This prompted Pappoe to take to Twitter which calmed some Tiger fans' nerves.

Pappoe isn't the only very talented prospect from his high school. Grayson in Loganville, Ga., regularly produces top-talent each season.

The Rams have prospects committed to play at Tennessee (Wanya Morris), Texas (Kenyatta Watson II), Nebraska (Ronald Thompkins) and Illinois (Jakai Clark).

Opening finals veteran

Pappoe made some history during the camp circuit this spring. He became the first player in Nike's The Opening history to make the finals three times.

He also made the Under Armour All-American game this season, according to 247sports.

It can be hard to land top prospects coaching in the same state which Nick Saban also walks the sidelines.

Pappoe is on the same talent level as the prospects committed to Alabama. He's also one of Malzahn's best commits on the Plains.

He will be the eighth 5-star to join Auburn during the Malzhan era, according to the Montgomery Advertiser. He joins Carl Lawson (2013), Montravius Adams (2013), Roc Thomas (2014), Tre’ Williams (2014), Byron Cowart (2015) and Derrick Brown (2016).
