Tigers selected All-American
BATON ROUGE – LSU sophomore pitcher Aaron Nola, senior first baseman Mason Katz and freshman shortstop Alex Bregman received All-America recognition recently from Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Nola was named a first-team All-American, Katz was voted to the second-team All-America squad, and Bregman received a third-team All-America designation.
Nola, a right-hander from Baton Rouge, was named SEC Pitcher of the Year earlier this week, and he is 10-0 this season with a 1.94 ERA, and he has recorded 105 strikeouts in 102 innings.
Nola's honor marks the second straight season an LSU pitcher has earned first-team All-America recognition, as right-hander Kevin Gausman was a first-team All-American in 2012.
LSU has 24 first-team All-Americans in its history, including six in the seven-year tenure of coach Paul Mainieri.
Katz, a native of Harahan, is hitting .377 with 12 doubles, two triples, 14 homers and 64 RBI. Katz, named first-team All-SEC earlier this week, leads the league in RBI and total bases (141).
Bregman, a product of Albuquerque, N.M., and the 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year, is hitting a team-best .378 this season with 16 doubles, seven triples, five homers, 49 RBI and 14 stolen bases. Bregman is third in the nation and first in the SEC in base hits with 96, and he leads the conference with seven triples.
