Tigers selected to All-SEC team
BATON ROUGE - LSU placed eight Tigers on the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference football teams, including two on the first team, the AP announced Dec. 3.
LSU's eight total selections ranks as the second-most in the conference behind Alabama's nine. Florida is third with seven players, followed by Georgia with six.
Junior linebacker Kevin Minter and junior safety Eric Reid earned First-Team All-SEC honors on defense, while Bennie Logan, Craig Loston, Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery received Second-Team All-SEC recognition.
La'el Collins and Josh Dworaczyk were named Honorable Mention All-SEC.
It marks the second career honor for Reid, Mingo and Montgomery. Both Reid and Mingo were named to the AP All-SEC second team last season while Montgomery was a member of the first team.
Minter led the team and ranked third in the SEC in total tackles with 111, the most in a season by a Tiger since Kelvin Sheppard had 116 in 2010. Minter also led the team and ranked fourth in the conference in tackles for loss with 13.5.
A member of the 2012 AFCA All-America team, Reid ranks third on the team with 81 tackles to go along with two interceptions and six pass breakups in 12 starts this season.
Logan has started 11 games and compiled 36 tackles, including 5.0 tackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks at defensive tackle.
Loston ranks second in the SEC in interception return yards with 103 on three picks this season, including a school-record tying 100-yard INT return for a touchdown against Mississippi State.
Mingo led the team with 12 quarterback hurries and registered 33 tackles this season, including 5.5 tackles for a loss and 4.0 sacks.
Montgomery recorded a team-best 7.0 sacks to go along with 12.0 tackles for a loss and 32 total stops.
The Southeastern Conference office released the 2012 Coaches' All-SEC Team Dec. 4, and LSU earned five selections, including three first-team members.
Montgomery, Minter and Reid were named to the Coaches' All-SEC First Team, while Mingo and senior placekicker Drew Alleman were selected to the second team.
LSU offensive lineman Vadal Alexander and cornerback Jalen Collins were also each named to the Freshman All-SEC Team as voted on by the league's coaches, the SEC office announced Dec. 6.
No. 7 LSU will face No. 13 Clemson in a battle of 10-2 Tigers in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31 in Atlanta. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT in the Georgia Dome, and the game will be televised by ESPN.
