While many have been slamming the University of Arizona for hiring Jedd Fisch as its new head football coach, a couple of prominent NFL coaches gave Fisch big endorsements Wednesday.

Arizona's release announcing Fisch's hire included words of praise for the new coach from NFL coaches Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll.

Fisch was the quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots this season.

"Jedd Fisch is one of the most outstanding coaches I have worked with and was an excellent addition to our staff this year," said Belichick, the coach of the Patriots. "Jedd has gained a wealth of experience in numerous organizations, in college and the NFL, and is ready to lead the Arizona program. Although we will miss his contributions here, we wish Jedd and Amber well at the University of Arizona, home to two of the greatest Patriots, Tedy Bruschi and Rob Gronkowksi, as well as our current Wildcats, Nick Folk and J.J. Taylor."

Fisch also coached on Carroll's staff in Seattle.

"Jedd was on my first staff with the Seahawks. I've followed his career closely over the years, and he is highly qualified for the job," said Carroll, the coach of the Seahawks. "Jedd is a gifted offensive mind, and he will do a great job leading and caring for the University of Arizona program."

Former USC quarterback Matt Leinart praised Fisch and his hire on Twitter.

"Congrats @CoachJeddFisch! Pac 12 gets a great one!," he tweeted.

Several former Arizona players have had much different takes on the hire on social media, however, blasting the move.

Scooby Wright even tweeted that he was going to transfer his alumni allegiance.

Initial reaction to the hire from fans on social media was also less than enthusiastic.
