Cajuns schedule two future games vs. New Mexico State
UL on Wednesday announced via Twitter that it has scheduled two future football games against independent New Mexico State, a former Sun Belt Conference member.
The Cajuns will face the Aggies on Oct. 14, 2023, at Cajun Field, then travel to play them on Oct. 26, 2024, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
UL already is scheduled to visit New Mexico State on Oct. 24 of next season as part of a prior two-game contract, and in the other part of the same deal, it beat the Aggies 66-38 last season at home.
The Cajuns lead the all-time series with NMSU, which began in 1975, 6-5.
Wednesday’s non-conference scheduling announcement is the latest from UL to come in recent weeks.
The Cajuns previously announced that they will visit Florida State on Nov. 19, 2022, in Tallahassee, Florida.
They also recently revealed a home-and-home series against Wyoming that will begin with the Cowboys visiting Cajun Field on Sept. 12, 2020, and the Cajuns making a trip to Laramie, Wyoming, in 2026.
UL has one other non-conference game scheduled for 2023, Sept. 30 at Minnesota, and one other scheduled for 2024, Sept. 21 at home against Tulane.
Other future non-conference opponent beyond this season: McNeese at home and Missouri on the road in 2020; at Texas and at Liberty and at home against Nicholls and Ohio in 2021; and at home against Eastern Michigan and at Rice in 2022; Rice at home and Eastern Michigan on the road in 2025; at Tulane in 2027; and at home against Tulsa in 2028.
That leaves the Cajuns with a full-non-conference schedule in 2020 and 2021; one open (or unannounced) date in 2022; two openings each in 2023, 2024 and 2025; and three vacancies in 2026, 2027 and 2028.
