Louisiana football loses second prominent running back to the NCAA transfer portal
Another prominent Louisiana football running back is looking to leave.
Emani Bailey has entered the NCAA transfer portal, a Ragin’ Cajuns spokesman confirmed Friday.
Bailey becomes the fourth prominent Cajun from UL’s 13-1 2021 team to go into the portal this month, joining freshman running back Montrell Johnson Jr., starting right guard O’Cyrus Torrence and starting cornerback Mekhi Garner.
Bailey, a Texan from Ryan High in Denton, and Johnson were part of a three-man running back rotation along with starter and leading rusher Chris Smith.

Bailey ran 95 times for 615 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021, his second year as a Cajun.
He missed three games due to minor midseason knee surgery, but returned later in the year.
Bailey rushed 17 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns when Smith was injured and out for UL’s New Orleans Bowl win over Marshall in December. After the bowl win, Cajuns quarterback Levi Lewis presented his bowl MVP trophy to Bailey and Bailey posed for pictures with it.
Another former Cajun, reserve offensive lineman Kam Waites, also recently entered the portal. He already has joined former UL coach Billy Napier at Florida.
Former UL running backs coach Jabbar Juluke also followed Napier to Florida.
The Cajuns announced Thursday that former UL tight ends coach analyst Matt Bergeron, who spent a couple weeks as a Florida under Napier, has been hired to replace Juluke.
