Former Louisiana-Monroe offensive lineman T.J. Fiailoa will experience the Battle on the Bayou from the other sideline.

Fiailoa signed with Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday. A preseason second-team All-Sun Belt selection, Fiailoa placed his name in the transfer portal following ULM’s 0-10 finish to the 2020 season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Former ULM coach Matt Viator, who was fired on Dec. 7, joined the Ragin’ Cajuns staff as an analyst in January.

Fiailoa started every game at guard for the Warhawks in 2020. He was limited to four starts in 2019 after a season-ending leg injury. As a sophomore, Fiailoa started all 12 games and received third-team All-Sun Belt honors, allowing only 1.5 sacks. He made seven starts as a redshirt freshman in 2017.

Cajuns offensive coordinator Rob Sale was ULM’s offensive line coach in 2016, Fiailoa’s redshirt season. Wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Tim Leger held the same titles at ULM from 2016-18.

Fiailoa was part of Viator’s first signing class in 2016 out of MacArthur High School in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Samuel Williams, a two-year starter at offensive tackle who ULM also lost to the portal, signed with Louisiana Tech in December.
