The Plaquemine High Green Devils only trailed once – and that was very early in the game – in a 64-57 win Saturday at Southern University’s Joel Hawkins Classic over the Northside High Vikings.

The game’s top player, as named by the tournament’s organizers, Tyron Dempsey put two points on the scoreboard in the first few minutes of the game, which was topped by a 3-pointer by the opposition about 30 seconds later, but the 3-2 Vikings lead was short-lived.

The 13-8 Green Devils led the rest of the game over Lafayette’s 15-11 Vikings, led in scoring by Dempsey with 18 points, but he was closely trailed by Jazz Prove and Darius Jackson with 17 each.

Prove and Jackson also added two assists in the win while Detrell Williams. D.T. Wicks, and Spriggs added one each. Dempsey led the team in rebounds with five, trailed closely by A.J. Riley with four and Wicks with three.
