High school district plans unchanged

There were not many changes that affected area high schools when the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s executive committee approved its districting plan for 2013-14 and 2014-15 recently.

The association received enrollment numbers from the Louisiana State Department of Education to base its classification cycle for its 389 schools.

Plaquemine’s enrolment of 796 students will keep it a Class 4A school where it will remain in District 6-4A with Lutcher, St. Michael Tara and Belaire while former district opponents, Broadmoor moves up to 5A and Istrouma drops to 2A.

White Castle, St. John and East Iberville will also all remain in Class 1A with enrollments figures of 176, 133 and 124, respectively. District 8-1A remains identical to in the past consisting of White Castle, St. John, East Iberville, West St. John, Ascension Catholic and Ascension Christian.

For volleyball only, Plaquemine is in District 4-II with Belaire, Broadmoor, Central, Live Oak, St. Michael and Tara, while St. John and White Castle remain in District 3-V with Ascension Catholic, Catholic of Pointe Coupee, False River Academy and Pointe Coupee Central.

East Iberville remains in District 5-V with Ascension Christian, Family Christian, Hosanna Christian and Louisiana School for the Deaf. In preliminary drawings, the Lady Tigers were placed in a district more similar to its football league.

In soccer, Plaquemine is in District 5-II with Belaire, Lutcher, St. Michael and Tara. The Green Devils are also in Division II  in wrestling.
