Devils' Maracalin, Cavalier selected to 6-4A first team

Plaquemine Senior High School advanced to the postseason for the third straight year and placed third in District 6-4A standings.
Senior pitcher Ben Cavalier and junior outfielder Julius Maracalin earned first-team all-district recognition recently.
Eventual state champion Lutcher swept individuals honors. Davey Clement was selected Coach of the Year, Jared Poche MVP and Sully Martin Gold Glove.
The Green Devils, under coach Scott Allen, finished 14-10 overall and were 3-5 in district play falling to co-district champ St. Michael the Archangel in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Selected to the second team from Plaquemine were sophomore pitcher Joesph Keller and freshmen pitcher Dalton Brigalia.
Junior infielder Austin LeJeune, sophomore catcher Chris Cox and freshmen outfielders Brian Jordan and Ethan King earned honorable mention.
Maracalin batted .500 with 27 RBIs, 18 runs, 10 doubles, four home runs and 15 stolen bases.
Cavalier posted a 4-2 record with a 3.20 ERA. He also batted .319 with 11 RBIs, 27 runs, four doubles and seven stolen bases.
Keller was 7-3 that included a no-hitter with a 3.00 ERA. He also hit .304 with 19 RBIs, 20 runs, three doubles and triples and five stolen bases.
Brigalia posted a 5-3 mark and hit .389 with seven RBIs, five runs, one double and three stolen bases.
Jordan batted .357 with eight RBIs, 12 runs and seven stolen bases. Cox hit .353 with 12 RBIs and runs and three doubles.
King hit .256 with nine RBIs, 10 runs, one double and nine stolen bases. LeJeune batted .226 with 11 RBIs, 21 runs, one double and four stolen bases.
