Christian Life, University Lab trip up Plaquemine

PLAQUEMINE - Plaquemine Senior High School dropped their first games of the season with an 11-8 loss to Christian Life Tuesday and 8-1 defeat to University Lab Saturday.
The Green Devils (12-2), under coach Scott Allen, rebounded to defeat False River 8-2 on Tuesday. Plaquemine hosts Covenant Christian Thursday before traveling to city rival St. John Saturday and opening District 6-4A play Tuesday hosting St. Michael the Archangel.
Christian Life scored two runs in the eighth inning to push ahead. The Green Devils jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first inning and extended it to 6-1 in the third but the Crusaders scored seven in the fourth.
Orlando Batiste (double, two runs, RBI), Dalton Brigalia (double, two RBIs), Ethan King (two runs) and Austin LeJeune (run) were each 2-for-4 at the plate.
Brian Jordan and Dwayne Askins were each 1-for-4, Chris Cox drew two walks, Matt Williams scored two runs and Joseph Keller one.
University broke up a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning and added four in the fifth.
Cox hit a double, Williams scored the Green Devils’ lone run and Jordan was 1-for-2.
Brigalia’s double in the first inning against Christian Life put the Green Devils ahead 4-1 after singles by LeJeune and Batiste.
Batiste lined a one-out double and Cox drew a walk in the third inning before Brigalia’s single drove in two runs to push the lead to 6-1.
Keller and Batiste drew consecutive walks to lead off the fifth inning and King and Askins’ singles each drove in runs.
Plaquemine loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth inning but came up empty. Jordan and LeJeune hit consecutive singles but Batiste struckout to end the game.
