Eagles roll False River in finale

PLAQUEMINE – St. John the Evangelist High School closed out the regular season with a 7-3 victory over False River on Friday evening.
The Eagles (22-5), under coach Heath Whittington, drew the No. 4 seed when Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A playoff brackets were released Tuesday and will host 29th seeded St. Martin’s Episcopal on Thursday at 5 p.m.
The winner advances to the regionals against No. 13 Catholic - Pointe Coupee or No. 20 Ascension Episcopal.
The Eagles advanced to the state tournament last season falling to eventual champion Mangham in the semifinals.
St. John players include Hunter Schnebelen, Brandon Noel, Christopher Patin, Jacob Maranto, Justin Maranto, Hayden Hemenway, Bailey Whittington, Colby Sadden, Gavin Landry, Mason LeBlanc, Dylan Tempanaro and Bryce Rivet.
