PLAQUEMINE – Plaquemine Senior High School swept Tara 15-0 on Tuesday and 16-1 on Thursday in District 6-4A play to wrap up the regular season at Joe Distefano Park.

The Green Devils (15-8), under coach Scott Allen, drew the No. 23 seed when Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A playoff brackets were released Tuesday and will travel to No. 10 Edna Karr on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Delgado Community College’s Kirsch-Rooney Stadium in New Orleans.

The winner advances to the regionals against No. 7 Franklinton or No. 26 East Jefferson.

“I feel like we are playing our best baseball right now and hopefully it carries over into the playoffs,” Allen said. “We split with them last year and kind of took that personal.”

Plaquemine posted three runs each in the first three innings Thursday before adding seven in the fourth.

Julius Maracalin was 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, five RBIs and three runs, while Austin LeJeune was 2-for-2 with two runs and Joe Keller was 1-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Michael Davis was 1-for-3 with one run, while Ethan King and Brian Jordan each scored two runs.

Orlando Batiste pitched the first three innings for Plaquemine and King pitched one.

The Green Devils scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second and six in the third on Tuesday.

LeJeune was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs, while Maracalin (three runs, RBI) and King (two RBIs) were each 2-for-3.

Keller (three RBIs) and Batiste (RBI) were each 2-for-4, Dwayne Askins was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Chris Cox was 1-for-3.

Keller pitched the first three innings and Austin Boudreaux threw the final inning.

It marks the fifth straight season the Green Devils have advanced to the postseason. Plaquemine fell to St. Micheal the Archangel in the first round last season.
