Lady Bulldogs, Tigers drop PHS, SJHS in jamboree
White Castle went on a 9-2 run to close out the game and take a 26-19 victory over Plaquemine in the final girls' game of the Placid Refinery Iberville Parish Basketball Jamboree on Thursday night at PHS' gym.
Plaquemine led by as many as six in the 10-minute second half before the Lady Bulldogs rallied after a defensive struggle in the first half.
East Iberville defeated St. John 38-15 in the opening contest after jumping out to a 24-2 halftime lead.
Skylar O'Bear and Shylar O'Bear each had seven to lead the Lady Bulldogs under coach Tammy Pierce. Alaina Williams added five, Erica Jones four and Blessing Franklin three.
Amber Smith had a game-high eight points for Plaquemine under coach Brannon Dillon. Tatyanna Jones added four, Jernasha Collins and O'Neisha Batiste each had three and Taylor Arnold one.
Jasmine Mosby had a game-high 12 points for East Iberville under coach Cormando Grace-Green. Taylor Green and Nadia Rodriquez each added six, Chelsea Green five, Ariel Fuller four, Ja'Laycia Mills three and Kirstein Oubre two.
Kamryn Theriot led the Lady Eagles under first-year coach Chase Mancuso with six points. Jessie Brown added five and Shelbi Strickland and Jayme Rivet each had two.
Shylar O'Bear's pair of free throws put White Castle ahead for good 19-17 with 50.5 seconds remaining. Skylar O'Bear then added another pair and a layup off a steal before Shylar O'Bear provided three more from the charity stripe with less than 16 seconds remaining after Collins converted two foul shots.
Plaquemine took a 6-4 halftime lead after Smith fed Batiste for a 3-point play before Williams' assist on O'Bear's baseline jumper. Williams' putback and Smith's drive opened the contest.
Jones' lane jumper put Plaquemine ahead 11-5 to open the second half after Smith's pull up jumper but White Castle regained the lead when O'Bear fed Jones inside after a dish to Skylar O'Bear for a 3-pointer from the right wing before Williams' free throws.
Franklin's baseline jumper put the Lady Bulldogs back ahead preceding Shylar O'Bear' dish to Jones again but Smith drained three free throws to knot it up at 17 with under a minute to play.
Mosby's putback opened the first game of the evening before two more made it 12-1 after Taylor Green's layup off a steal and Chelsea Green's baseline drive. Mosby fed Rodriquez in transition to close out the half after her fast break layup and turnaround jumper on assists from Fuller who previously converted off a steal.
Theriot's transition basket cut it to 30-15 in the second half after Fuller fed Taylor Green on the break. Mills' putback opened the second half before Theriot's baseline jumper and layup off Strickland's steal.
Brown's runner and lane cut sandwiched Chelsea Green's baseline jumper before Rivet's from the free throw line. East Iberville closed out the game on an 8-0 run capped by Fuller's dish to Oubre and lane drive.
