BATON ROUGE – East Iberville of Class 1A used an 8-0 run to open the fourth quarter of a tie ballgame on the way to claiming a 48-43 victory over 2A Redemptorist in the Seventh Annual University Classic at Coach Furr Court on Thursday night.

The Lady Tigers (2-6) fell to 2A host University 59-33 on Friday and 4A Lutcher 43-35 on Saturday also in tournament play after falling to Walker 71-8 on Monday. East Iberville traveled to Class B Hosanna Christian on Tuesday before participating in the Episcopal Tournament beginning Thursday and traveling to 5A East Ascension on Monday.

"It is early in the season and we are still gelling but by January everything should be in place," East Iberville coach Cormanda Grace-Green said. "We have our whole team back and can have a good year. Some people would count us out right now but I guarantee you when district comes around, we will be in the mix."

There were 13 lead changes and seven ties against Redemptorist but the Lady Tigers never trailed in the fourth quarter.

"It is a nice win," Grace-Green said. "We had a lot of foul trouble in the first half but once we got them players back in, they were smarter on defense and stopped reaching. Redemptorist is a real scrappy team and bottom line, we had to get down and dirty with them."

Jasmine Mosby led East Iberville with 16 points. Ja'Laycia Mills added 12, Chelsea Green nine, Taylor Green five, Kirstein Oubre four and Victoria Ausbon two.

Chelsea Singleton had a game-high 17 for Redemptorist. Alexis Augustus added nine and Shardae Melancon and Kendra Claiborne each had six.

Mills' free throws put East Iberville ahead for good before Ariel Fuller's dishes to her in transition and inside sandwiched Taylor Green's floater in the lane to make it 40-32.

Mosby's dish to Mills and putback off a steal pushed the lead back to seven before Fuller drew a charge with 47.4 seconds remaining.

Chelsea Green's 3-point play cut it to 17-16 going into the second quarter after six lead changes and five ties just in the first quarter alone.

Green's 3-pointer from the left wing and Mosby's putback gave East Iberville a 9-4 early lead before Melancon's trey knotted it up. Oubre fed Mosby inside to put the Lady Tigers back ahead briefly.

Mosby's jumper and transition basket from Green put East Iberville ahead to start the second quarter. The Lady Tigers never trailed in the frame and led 23-22 at the half after Mills' trey.

Augustus' baseline jumper tied it 32-32 going into the fourth after Oubre fed a cutting Mosby. Mosby's baseline drive and Oubre's putback had given East Iberville a 30-27 lead after Taylor Green's baseline drive answered Redemptorist's second half opening basket.
