Raiders edge St. John

LHSAA Class 1A St. John's rally fell just short to 2A Runnels 58-56 on Tuesday night at SJHS' gym in non-district play.

The Eagles (0-6), under coach Kade Thibodeaux, hosted 2A Doyle Tuesday before traveling to 1A Opelousas Catholic on Wednesday and 4A Lutcher on Tuesday seeking their first victory of the season.

Runnels took a 34-25 halftime lead after the score was tied 13-13 going into the second quarter. St. John trimmed the deficit to 41-35 going into the fourth.

Grant Welch had a game-high 32 points for Runnels (2-4). Hunter Amedee added eight, Hanson Hudson six, Mohammad Pirazadah five and Andrew Hide four.

Princeton Young led St. John with 16 points. Hayden Hemenway added 13, Gavin Primeaux 10, Brennan Miller seven, Benjamin Poirrier four, Bailey Whittington four and Tyler St. Germain two.

Welch had four 3-pointers for the Raiders and Young and Miller each one for St. John.
