Lady Green Devils split with Istrouma, St. Michael

Plaquemine defeated Istrouma 49-44 in District 6-4A play on Tuesday night at PHS' gym but faltered against St. Michael the Archangel on Friday night in a 43-36 loss in Baton Rouge.

The Lady Green Devils (6-12, 2-3) will travel to Lutcher Friday and host Episcopal – B.R. Tuesday after hosting Belaire Tuesday.

"All we want to do is compete and if we do that there is still a chance to make the playoffs," Plaquemine coach Brannon Dillon said. "We are much better than our record shows but it always falls back on our youth and inexperience."

The Lady Green Devils led 13-5 going into the second quarter but Istrouma tied it 20-20 at the half before Plaquemine went ahead 39-28 going into the fourth.

Amber Smith had a game-high 25 points for Plaquemine. Jimara Russ added six, Jernasha Collins, O'Neisha Batiste and Tatyanna Jones each four and Asia Marshall and Darylniece Tillman each three.

"I don't think the game should have been that close," Dillon said. "Amber has been carrying us the whole year. She always puts us in situations at the end of the game to win."

Ebony Dorizan led Istrouma (6-13, 1-3) with 13 points. Morgan Johnson added 12 and Kenyata Carter nine.

St. Michael took a 21-16 halftime lead after the score was tied 10-10 following the first quarter and led 32-25 going into the fourth.

Smith led Plaquemine with 15 points. Marshall added 10, Russ four, Batiste two and Kiffani Young one.

Taylor Morrison led the Lady Warriors (21-3, 4-0) with a game-high 18 points. Journee Beard and Karly Perkins each added seven and Taylor Morrison four.
