Lady Tigers split with WSJ, ACHS to open district

East Iberville rebounded from a 66-34 District 9-1A opening loss to West St. John to defeat Ascension Catholic 57-48 on Friday night in Donaldsonville.

The Lady Tigers (10-12, 1-1), under coach Cormanda Grace-Green, host St. John Friday and White Castle Tuesday after traveling to Ascension Christian on Tuesday.

East Iberville led West St. John 12-11 after the first quarter but the Lady Rams took a 37-19 halftime lead and extended it to 53-25 going into the fourth.

Jasmine Mosby led the Lady Tigers with 15 points. Ja'Laycia Mills added 10, Kirstein Oubre four, Ariel Fuller three and Taylor Green two.

Jayln Gordon had a game-high 24 points for West St. John (16-2, 2-0), including six 3-pointers. Maya Trench added 15 and Donasia Bell 11.

The Lady Tigers extended a 23-22 halftime lead into a 41-34 cushion going into the fourth quarter after leading 16-12 following the first frame against Ascension Catholic.

Mosby had a game-high 19 points. Chelsea Green added 14, Mills eight, Fuller seven, Oubre four, Taylor Green three and Marlana Stewart one.

Rae'Shaun Melancon led Ascension Catholic (10-10, 1-1) with 14 points. Jordynn Brown added 13, Megan Brooks 12, Kyra Jones seven and Nancy Guillot and Amber Carter each two.
