Lady Bulldogs split with WSJ, ACHS

White Castle split a pair of District 9-1A home games last week defeating Ascension Catholic 67-48 on Tuesday night before falling to West St. John 54-40 on Friday night.

The Lady Bulldogs (12-11, 3-1), under coach Tammy Washington-Pierce and LSWA ranked No. 13, were in a second-place tie with East Iberville heading into their first-round finale on Tuesday in St. Gabriel. White Castle hosts Ascension Christian on Friday and St. John on Tuesday.

White Castle maintained an 11-9 first quarter lead to go into the half ahead of Ascension Catholic 22-20 before exploding to a 49-31 advantage heading into the fourth.

Erica Jones had a game-high 24 points for White Castle including three 3-pointers. Shylar O'Bear added 18, Blessing Franklin eight, Alaina Williams six, Skylar O'Bear five and Brooklyn Falcon four.

Jordynn Brown led Ascension Catholic (11-11, 2-2) with 18 points. Rae'Shaun Melancon added 15, Kyra Jones 11 and Megan Brooks five.

The Lady Bulldogs led 11-9 going into the second quarter before No. 1 ranked West St. John took a 23-21 halftime lead and extended it to 45-35 going into the fourth.

Williams led White Castle with 11 points. Shylar O'Bear and Jones each added 10, Skylar O'Bear six and Franklin and Falcon each two.

Jayln Gordon led the Lady Rams (19-1, 4-0) with a game-high 22 points. Maya Trench added 12 and Donasia Bell 10.
