No. 8 White Castle drops Rams, Bulldogs

White Castle won a pair of District 9-1A home games last week defeating Ascension Catholic 92-61 on Tuesday night before dropping West St. John 64-48 on Friday night.

The LSWA No. 8 ranked Bulldogs (11-8, 4-0), under coach Troy Green, were in a first-place tie with East Iberville heading into their first-round finale showdown on Tuesday in St. Gabriel. White Castle hosts Ascension Christian on Friday and St. John on Tuesday.

White Castle exploded to a 39-30 halftime lead over Ascension Catholic after a 20-20 score at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 72-42 going into the fourth.

DeAndre Bellock led the Bulldogs with a game-high 27 points. Samson Westley added 19, Tyrie Lang 14, Swayne Edwards 13, Moses Young seven, Harold Zachary and Jacori Washington each four and Byron Pierre two.

Bellock and Lang each had four 3-pointers, Edwards two and Westley one.

Gilbert Allen led Ascension Catholic (8-15, 2-2) with 20 points. Caleb Winchester added 17, DeAndre Francis 10 and Cleveland Fefie six.

The Bulldogs took a 32-23 lead into the half against West St. John after trailing 18-8 after one quarter. White Castle led 47-37 going into the fourth.

Bellock had a game-high 24 points including four 3-pointers. Edwards added 15 on three treys, Westley 13, Lang eight and Young four.

Damond Pierce led the Rams (4-9, 2-2) with 10 points. Quan Scott added nine, Morrell Bartholemew eight and Jalen Echols six.
