EIHS' Mills, WCHS' Jones all-state honorable mention

West St. John High School guard Jaylyn Gordon, a University of Louisiana-Lafayette signee, was voted Outstanding Player on the Class 1A All-State girls basketball team selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Gordon, who scored 30 points in a 54-52 loss to Vermilion Catholic in the state championship game, averaged 22.3 points in helping the Lady Rams to a 30-2 mark.
Vermilion Catholic coach Kim Guidry, whose team finished 30-6, was named the 1A girls Coach of the Year.
Joining Gordon on the girls first team were: Plain Dealing senior Dennisha Chambers (38.0), Central Catholic junior Meoshonti Knight (18.9) and Vermilion Catholic's Ashailee Brailey (22.0) and Katie Frith (17.5).
East Iberville's Ja'Laycia Mills and White Castle's Erica Jones, both District 9-1A first-team selections, were chosen honorable mention. Mills averaged 12.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while Jones averaged 19.1 points and 10 rebounds in district.
