Metairie Park-Country Day center Scott Plaisance helped complete one of the more amazing comebacks of the season for the Cajuns and coach Mike McGuire to the Class 1A state championship.

Plaisance was named the Outstanding Player on the Class 1A All-State boys’ basketball team selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and McGuire also was voted the Class 1A Coach of the Year.

The 6-foot-9 Plaisance, a junior, averaged 15.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game. McGuire coached his team to a 26-10 mark.

Joining Plaisance on the first team were Christian Life junior Johnathan Stove (19.8 points per game), Houma Christian senior Nate Frye (17.6), Central Catholic senior Dontrell Brown (24.5) and North Central senior Nathaniel Francis (15.0).

White Castle senior DeAndre Bellock, the District 9-1A MVP, was selected to the second team after averaging 24 points per game. Bellock helped lead the district runner-up Bulldogs to the quarterfinals before falling to Country Day.

Joining Bellock on the second team were North Central’s Tra’von Joseph, Arcadia’s Antwine Baker and Eric Brown Jr. and Northwood’s Michael Laysard.
