Plaquemine falls to PAHS in Gehrig Lou Harris final

WHITE CASTLE – Plaquemine advanced to the championship final of White Castle High School's Gehrig Lou Harris Tournament before falling to Port Allen 61-53.
The Green Devils (3-3), under coach Donald Ray Johnson, travel to Morgan City on Friday before hosting St. James on Monday.
"We return a lot of guys from last year and they have been working hard," Johnson said. "We had to make a few adjustments but everybody is in place. We have to get back into the playoffs. That is one of our team goals."
Port Allen took a 15-10 lead into the second quarter of the final before Plaquemine cut it to 26-23 at the half and led 41-36 going into the fourth quarter.
Clifton Young led the Green Devils with 23 points. Darwin James added nine, Devante Marshall eight, Cameron Garner six, Demetrius Franklin four and Kirkland Jones three. Garner had two 3-pointers and James one.
Plaquemine advanced to the final with a 50-41 victory over Assumption. The Green Devils led 13-11 going into the second quarter before the Mustangs built a 28-24 halftime lead but Plaquemine led 37-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Garner had 14 points to lead the Green Devils while Young added 12, James seven, Franklin six, Jones 5 and Marshall four.
The Green Devils opened the tournament with a 63-37 victory over Capitol. Plaquemine led 24-6 going into the second quarter and 33-14 at the half before taking a 51-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
Marshall led Plaquemine with 15 points followed by Young with 12, Garner and Jones each with nine, Franklin with eight, James with seven, Kirk Bosley with two and Jared Mosby with one. Garner had two 3-pointers.
